Interference and influence on the final declaration!

We, young anti-racist participants of the conference "European Youth in Action for Diversity and Tolerance" held on November 2005 in Berlin, would like to express our great dissatisfaction with the interference and influence by adult representatives from an outsider organization and some organizers of the conference on the final declaration and action plan that was handed over to European politicians and representatives of European institutions. Although we are satisfied with the conference in general, we believe that it is important to be honest to the young anti-racist participants and let them know about the fact that the editorial board was put under pressure under certain moments during the editing process. It is our strong belief that this honesty will reduce the critical voices and create faith in the conference and its organizers. Therefore, we kindly ask you to take necessary actions in order to prevent similar incidents of this nature taking place at future conferences by publishing and commenting on this statement on the conference homepage. We hope that our constructive criticism will help to improve future conferences further.

Record of discussions in workshop 8: European Immigration Policy - Fortress Europe

Tuesday, 9:00h a.m.:10 issues that had been made the previous day by merging 20 topics were appointed to 10 newly formed groups.
Tasks was to be done until afternoon. 16:00 p.m.:

Step 1: each group to have 1 joint opinion on their topic. 1 chapter of the Declaration.
Step 2: Political recommendation
Step 3: Action proposals â€“ self-commitments

Daniela, Malta, working for Jesuit Refugee Service in a Detention Centre in Malta
Svilen Ovcharov, lawyer at the BHC
Gaetano, newspaper Libera against mafia. Works on trafficking of Human Beings

Editorial Board

After the long session of working groups' presentations the editorial board is starting to work on "the declaration" very ambitiously at 20:30 in the editorial board room.

Expert discussions in small groups

After official opening of the conference which took place at Centrum Judaicum, the participants were transferred back to Hotel Dolce. And after having lunch at 3 oâ€™clock we started the discussions.

Participants were divided into ten groups. Each of the groups settled down in its own room and discussed topics. There were ten topics â€“ one for every working group. The discussions started with introductory part â€“ every participant shortly told about him/her mentioning a name, country, organization and experienced connected to the topic of the discussion. Then there were brief presentation made by experts.

The conference website is designed as a multi-user system, that allows every participant of the conference to contribute on an individual basis. The idea is to set up a lively, interactive environment that enables you not only to read and receive information, but also to create content on your own and share useful information with other participants before, during and after the actual conference in Berlin.
