Main objectives of the conference:
- Impact of the European Youth Conference “Youth for Democracy and Tolerance†2001
The outcome of the European Youth Conference 2001 will be evaluated at two levels: On the one hand, political developments and initiatives since the last youth conference at both national and European level can be presented. On the other hand, developments in terms of content and in the field as well as concrete activities since 2001 are to be looked at.
This objective will be implemented during the opening phase of the conference.
- Exchange of experience on best practices
The Youth Conference will provide a venue to compare notes on methods and strategies and offer many opportunities to exchange experience with anti-racism projects. Best practice projects will be presented. The exchange will focus on projects for youths as target group. It will include a comparison of national experience, experience with grant programmes, in international cooperation and networking; experience gained by the European Commission, the Council of Europe; by ENAR, EUMC, and with the YOUTH programme.
- Networking
The Youth Conference provides an opportunity for the participants to look beyond their own fields, link up with projects from other countries and thus improve their activities. This networking will add to the European dimension of anti-racism work; the young participants will be able to experience Europe in very concrete terms.
These two objective are to be implemented during the exchange and networking phase of the Conference and the planning phase. Moreover, the "Market of Possibilities" will become the informal centre for exchanging experience and for networking during the Conference.
- Final political declaration
The Conference will close with the handing over of demands of the participants to policymakers. This final declaration is to enhance the identification of all participants with the results of the Youth Conference and will be a major instrument for public relations work. The political declaration will be developed by means of a discussion process, starting already before the Conference via the home page and being continued during the Conference until Tuesday afternoon. The declaration is to be adopted on Tuesday evening and handed over on Wednesday afternoon.
This objective is to be implemented in the agreement phase of the Conference and in the closing phase.
- Plans for actions
Concrete plans for actions are one way of guaranteeing sustainability of the Conference results. Such agreements will be made among the youths themselves as well as between the various stakeholder groups. The transferability of plans for actions to the national level will also be discussed. Such agreements encourage youths in their own project work and are suitable to promote networking in Europe. The publication of such plans for actions in the form of self-commitments in an annex to the final political declaration is an option that should be considered.
